Word hit Wednesday morning that Cardinals’ ace Adam Wainwright has been flown back to St. Louis to have his right elbow examined by team doctors.
The Cardinals (and fantasy managers) across the country are holding their collective breaths, but it’s expected that Wainwright will undergo Tommy John surgery, which would sideline him for 12-18 months.
This is a devastating blow to not only the Cardinals, but those who own Wainwright as well. The 29-year-old was among the top-ranked starting pitchers this season, checking in as the No. 2 pitcher (27th overall) in our rankings...
On the surface, 2010 was a banner year for Ubaldo Jimenez. He no-hit the Braves on April 17, and established his repertoire as one of the nastiest in baseball, while boasting the best average fastball velocity in the majors last season, at 96.1 MPH.
2010 was the third consecutive season in which Jimenez’s innings pitched, wins, strikeout rate, ERA, WHIP and batting average against all trended in the right direction.

Ubaldo Jimenez has been absolutely filthy through 16 starts this season, going 14-1 with a Bob Gibson-like 1.83 ERA. The 26-year-old flame thrower even tossed a no-hitter back on April 17.
Likewise, Marlins‘ starter Josh Johnson boasts a 1.83 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through 16 starts, but hasn’t gotten the luck or the run support that Jimenez has.

Game No. 20 – Anaheim Angels vs. Boston Red Sox
Mike Lowell was the most productive hitter in Monday night’s slug fest, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, a walk, two runs and four RBI. In just his ninth start of the season, Lowell hit sixth as Boston’s DH while David Ortiz sat against Angels’ lefty Joe Saunders, who yielded seven runs on nine hits and four walks in four innings.
Saturday was the most exciting day of the 2010 baseball season thus far. Not only did Ubaldo Jimenez deliver a no-hitter against the Braves, but the the Mets and Cardinals played a 20-inning marathon; a game this Insider was lucky enough to score.
Game No. 13 & 14 – New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals
