2011 Fantasy Baseball Rankings: The Top 15 Third Basemen

Third base has become surprisingly thin in recent seasons. While the elite players (Wright, Longoria and perhaps even Rodriguez, Youkilis and Zimmerman) offer fantastic production, the rest of the group offers nothing but questions. Kevin Youkilis doesn’t have third base eligibility yet, but he’s worth the wait. After a week or two (depending on what site you play on), he’s the fourth-best player at the position. Expected bounce-back seasons from Aramis Ramirez, Mark Reynolds and Pablo Sandoval could lend some depth to the hot corner by season’s end. An emerging Pedro Alvarez won’t hurt, either...

2011 Fantasy Projections, No. 87: Why Baltimore Orioles’ Mark Reynolds Will Bounce Back Despite Low Average

Over the last three seasons, Mark Reynolds is one of eight players to hit more than 100 home runs. The other seven players all rank among the top 54 on my 2011 big board, but Reynolds’ embarrassing strikeout rate (39.5 percent since 2008) and paltry batting average (.198 in ‘10, .234 since ‘08) limit his fantasy value. Yet despite this, Reynolds’ power/speed combo at the hot corner cannot be ignored. Let’s not forget, his 2009 campaign (98 runs, 44 HRs, 102 RBI, 24 steals, .260 average) made him a popular top-20 pick at this time last season...

30 Teams in 30 Days: 2011 Baltimore Orioles Fantasy Preview

The Baltimore Orioles had a busy offseason acquiring the likes of Derrek Lee, Mark Reynolds, Vladimir Guerrero, among others. The key to the Orioles lineup in 2011, however, will be the return of Brian Roberts, who missed 103 games last year with back and neck injuries. The team received a scare with news that Roberts was taken in for an MRI on his neck in the opening days of spring training, but nothing came of it. Roberts made his spring debut on Tuesday, and is expected to be in the lineup Opening Day. Just two years removed from a ridiculous 110/16/79/30/.283 season, Roberts remains capable of 10-plus HRs, 25-plus steals and a .280 batting average...

Fantasy Baseball Insiders Tonight 4/10: Yankees’ CC Sabathia, Blue Jays’ Dana Eveland Shine

After scoring one game each of the first six days of the 2010 baseball season, Fantasy Baseball Insiders took on an even more impressive task on Saturday. On a day full of exciting matchups, the Insiders scored three games from start to finish, making for the most in-depth update of the young season. Game No. 7 – Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds Kosuke Fukudome went 1-for-4 with a two-run bomb off Reds’ starter Aaron Harang in the fourth inning, his first of the year. The Cubs’ right fielder just missed another homer in the sixth, chasing Jay Bruce to the wall in right field...
