After a brief Mother’s Day weekend break, Fantasy Baseball Insiders Tonight is back with everything you need to know from Monday night’s action…
HITTERS
Hitter of the day: Carlos Ruiz (4-for-5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI)
Lost in the potent Phillies lineup is the hot-hitting Carlos Ruiz. The 31-year-old catcher extended his hit streak to six games Monday night, going 4-for-5 with two runs, a HR and two RBI. Through 27 games this season, Ruiz is batting .350 with two homers and 12 RBI...
After a weekend break, Fantasy Baseball Insiders Tonight is back with everything you need to know from Monday night's action. Game No. 18 of 162 featured two of the hardest throwing young arms in the game: Mat Latos and Josh Johnson.
Game No. 18 - San Diego Padres vs. Florida Marlins
Josh Johnson threw a complete game three-hitter against the Padres Monday night, allowing just one run (a sac fly in the eighth) on 117 pitches. The 6-foot-7 right-hander also struck out 12 batters, while issuing just one free pass.
Game No. 12 in our journey to score 162 games this summer featured an Alfonso Soriano spotting and an unlikely performance from a less than desirable pitcher.
Game No. 12 – Houston Astros vs. Chicago Cubs
Carlos Silva pitched the game of his life on Friday against the Astros, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and zero walks in seven innings. The 31-year-old also struck out five.
Silva, who has a 4.70 career ERA, sports a 0.69 ERA and 0.62 WHIP through two starts. Some Cubs fans will tell you his early success is a direct result of Greg Maddux’s tutelage. This Insider, however, is chalking it up to pure dumb luck.
Game No. 11 in our journey to score 162 games this baseball season featured the Brewers and Cubs in an exciting finish at Wrigley Field.
Game No. 11 – Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs
Randy Wells was the story of the first half of this game, striking out six batters through four, all against the Brewers’ one through three batters (Rickie Weeks, Corey Hart, Ryan Braun).
With two outs in the fifth, Rickie Weeks worked a nine-pitch at-bat, forcing Wells to labor for the first time all day. After fouling off three pitches and running the count full, Weeks delivered the Brewers’ first runs of the day, whacking a two-run double into the left-field corner that tied the game...
As part of our journey to watch and score 162 games this season, Tuesday night featured the Orioles/Rays opener in Tampa.
Game No. 3 - Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with a single, double, and HR.
Matt Wieters went 2-for-4 with a HR to lead off the sixth. In his first at-bat of the game, the soon-to-be 24-year-old crushed a ball that forced B.J. Upton to the wall in straight away center. I’ve been saying this since last April, Wieters will be a top-25 fantasy player by the end of this season...
